Course Description

In this competency‑based course, learners will acquire the clinical knowledge and practical foundations required to meet the expectations of the National Dental Assisting Examining Board (NDAEB) Clinical Practice Evaluation (CPE). This course is designed for individuals who require Education in Lieu of CPE or who need targeted remediation to achieve safe, competent entry to practice skills. Emphasis is placed on developing and strengthening the clinical competencies, professional behaviours, and technical skills essential to Canadian dental assisting practice.

Learners will review and apply core concepts of dentistry, including infection control, clinical safety protocols, dental materials handling, and principles of intra‑oral procedures, to build readiness for clinical performance assessments. Guided practice, instructor feedback, and structured simulation activities support the development of confidence, precision, and clinical judgement across the required NDAEB skill areas.

Additional Information

Learners begin with an individualized assessment to identify specific skill gaps and practice needs. Instruction includes focused demonstrations, hands‑on practice, and competency building exercises based on the nine NDAEB Clinical Practice Evaluation skills, ensuring alignment with national standards for dental assisting performance.

Learners receive structured feedback on technique, ergonomics, safety, communication, and professional standards. The course concludes with a final skills evaluation and recommendations that guide the learner’s next steps toward meeting licensure or regulatory requirements.
