Course Description

Advanced Hands-on Module 2 is a hands-on experiential learning component. This course will encompass the in-person training specific to retrofit installation of windows and doors.

Note: Registration is in partnership with the Canadian Homebuilders Association BC (CHBA), please follow this link to register for Module 1.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Replace product conditions – including energy performance and remediation for interior condensation.
  • Describe building code installation requirements – including the crossover path from new to retrofit.
  • Distinguish installation materials – including exterior trims, fasteners, exterior sealants, flashing tapes, metal flashings etc. 
  • Identify existing exterior conditions (windows) including full and partial removal including aluminium/wood/vinyl flange windows (stucco cladding, brick veneer, aluminium cladding, wood/vinyl siding).
  • Recognize the existing exterior conditions (doors) including full and partial removal of sliding glass doors and hinged doors (wood/vinyl siding and stucco cladding)
  • Identify critical barriers – including control of water penetration, air flow, attachment, and support.
  • Explain the different installation detailing – including replacement strategies, key installation objectives for sliding glass doors, side hinged doors, determining rain exposure conditions, effective water penetration control

Prerequisites

WDQR 100 – Intermediary Module 1 with a 70% pass is required for Module 2. Please provide proof of completion for WDQR 100 before registering to trades@okanagan.bc.ca.
